I want to express my gratitude to PetSmart Charities for everything they have done for our organization. I am on the board of directors and the volunteer/fundraising coordinator for the Humane Society of Sullivan County. We opened our facility in 2009 in rural southwest Indiana and we quickly became overwhelmed. A small group of us found out that our euthanasia numbers for the first few months were close to 70% and we knew that was unacceptable. We didn't know what to do or where to start but thank God for PetSmart Charities. We have cats available for adoption in five cages at the local PetSmart Charities Adoption Center and do an in-store adoption event monthly. We started doing monthly adoption events at the PetSmart store in Terre Haute and participating in all of the national adoption events. Next, we sent three of us to Boulder, Colorado for Rescue Waggin' program training and did our first successful transport this past July. By implementing all of these programs and a lot of hard work and dedication, we turned our shelter into a no-kill facility in four months. We will not euthanize for space ever again! This month has been such a HUGE success for us I want to share. We have sent 60 dogs/puppies on the Rescue Waggin' vehicle this month and participated in the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend Event February 11-13 at the Terre Haute store and broke our previous record by adopting 27 pets in one weekend! With the additional adoptions at the shelter, we have moved out more than 100 dogs in one month! Our success is because of PetSmart Charities and I could never thank you all enough!
