I volunteer at the local shelter and was lucky enough to drop by one day just after a lady had dropped off a beautiful Schnauzer-mix puppy. She found him after someone had thrown him into her garbage container. He appeared healthy and since she could not keep him, she brought him to the shelter. I fell in love with the little guy immediately and felt he was a wonderful replacement for another puppy of mine who had escaped our fenced yard and had been lost for eight days. I sat down to the shelter computer to enter the puppy on the shelter Web site. The "random name" feature on our petfinder.com site pulled up "Keeper" right away. It couldn't have been more appropriate since he was certainly not a "throw-away" but rather a "keeper." The best ending to the story was that the morning after I took Keeper home, my other puppy, Muffin, came home. She and Keeper are great pals and love to spend their days playing and they sleep together at night. Keeper became my sixth dog adopted from Partners for Pets, Inc. and I treasure them all.
