I adopted Mis Cazzie after seeing her picture online for the Rustburg,Virginia animal shelter. Her fur was a mess and she was in dire need of grooming, and appeared to be a messy Shih-tzu. I called about her and found she was deemed "likely unadoptable" because she had a mutilated eye. Because of this, she did not qualify to be spayed by the shelter. Sight unseen, I agreed to have her taken to a vet in Lynchburg, where she was spayed and updated on vaccines, as well as groomed. What I saw come out of the back room in the vet's arms the next day was this tiny little creature weighing only 4 lbs. She was a Brussels Griffon mix, but even so, was severely underweight. I took her home after a visit with my own vet, and 10 days later she weighed 8 lbs! He had me rush her in to check her thyroid, but, no problem there; she has simply been starving.
This was in 2001, but in 2006, Cazzie had a stroke. She survived that stroke, and is still with me; she's approximately 17 yrs old now. I have not regretted adopting this wonderful little dog; she's been such a joy.
