Catrin, a purebred Shiba Inu, began life as a breeder in a puppy mill. Like other puppy mill dogs, Catrin spent her life in a cage, never knowing kindness. No toys, no petting, no soft bed, no treats.
When Catrin’s breeding days were over, she was auctioned off, along with other breeders past their prime. Rescue volunteers came to buy freedom for the enslaved dogs.
Catrin‘s freedom was purchased by a woman acting on behalf of several rescues. Catrin and another dog from that auction became the first Furry Suits Rescue dogs. Skittish, fearful and untrained, Catrin had no idea how to live in a house, or what to make of the foster mom who cared for her. She shied away from human contact, and tried to escape constantly. We wondered if she would ever find a home that would want to adopt such a difficult dog.
Week after week, Catrin came to adoption events, where people ignored her in favor of more sociable dogs. And then one day a young couple came to meet Catrin after seeing her on Petfinder.com. They fell in love with her, and adopted her in March. Catrin must have known that she had found her “forever” home, because within weeks, she had begun to blossom. Her mom, Megan, wrote: “It has not even been a year yet and she has made so much progress. When I adopted her, she would hardly come out of her crate. She would sleep and eat in there. Now she sleeps all over the house! When I come home she runs to the front door and her tail wags so fast! She is a blessing in my life.”
