I had a white maine coon cat that I got when he was a kitten and he was with me for 15 years. When he was about 10, I adopted an 8 year old Cocker Spaniel from the Santa Cruz shelter. He was with me for another 5 years. My cocker spaniel died in Dec. of 2002, and then my maine coon died in Feb. of 2003. I was devastated. I had been doing volunteer work for the the maine coon rescue for about a year when my frankie died I decided to adopt 2 maine coon cats. I told the rescue that I was willing to take 2 adult cats and ones that were less likely to be adopted readily. I adopted Carter a real maine coon tabby who was very shy and had a hard time adjusting to a new home and Bobby who was a black kitty who had been mistreated and was scared. I have now had both for 2 1/2 years, they have become best buddies and Carter is a real sweetheart with a real maine coon personality. He waits for me at the door when he hears my car, loves to snuggle with me, and wants to be picked up all the time. Bobby has come around and is not afraid of me anymore. It took him almost 2 years to become fully comfortable with me. They are a great comfort and love for me.
