Some Healing for Two Broken Hearts
<<BACK

Some Healing for Two Broken HeartsI got Kinnick from the ARK in Lacon, Illinois. I had been looking on the internet for about two weeks, and my mom came across her on the petfinder.com website. She looked so sweet and loving, but lost in a way; as was I. My father passed away from liver failure due to alcoholism in September at the age of 55. He and I were as close as a father and daughter can get. I rely on my parents for so much emotional security, and to see someone who I considered ten feet tall and bulletproof succumb to something stronger than them, was something I didn't think I could handle. I was not dealing well with the loss at all, and didn't know how to go about a normal life. I picked Kinnick up about six weeks after losing my father, and she has been the best therapy that anyone could have. No matter what, when I come home, she is ALWAYS happy to see me, and she needs me. That is the best feeling in the world. Now, instead of relying on my dad for security, and seeing him as invincible, I am seen that way by Kinnick. Not only did I save her from a shelter, but she saved me from a situation that couldn't be solved, but only healed with time. I still cry, yes, but I truly believe that dogs can sense when you're upset, because she runs and jumps right up on my lap and starts licking my face when she hears me cry. They can tell when something's not right.

I believe that I would be in a totally different place if it weren't for that little puppy. I feel so blessed that we have each other now, and we don't have to feel alone anymore.

Thank God for charities like Petsmart who help keep blessing like Kinnick alive to help people like me.
