2005 was a very sad year as we lost our 14- and 15-year-old schnauzers six months apart and moved over a thousand miles away from our grandchildren. We almost bought a schnauzer puppy in Feb., 2006, but knew anyone could love that little beauty. On March 25, my birthday, we were going to a little shop next door to our local Petsmart. Outside there was a kennel/trailer that had dogs from a shelter run by schoolchildren. We had trips planned for the next week as well as several trips for the summer, but decided to "look". Lucy, a long haired border collie mix was charming, but I did not plan to get a dog that sheds! Then she put out her little paw and touched my finger. Deciding to take her out for a walk, she danced down the steps toward my husband. She owned us, lock, stock and barrel! Instead of a nice restaurant meal that night, we spent my birthday cuddling and playing with our 10 month old. She was even house broken. Lucy loves everyone, doesn't bark and adores children. Everywhere we take her, people stop and ask what kind of dog she is and where we found such a doll. She has truly been a blessing and is the best dog we have ever had as part of our family.
