A Rescued Dog is My Rescuer

A Rescued Dog is My RescuerSeveral months before Thanksgiving my husband and I had adopted our first puppy, Katie, from the local animal shelter. We thought about adopting another puppy to keep her and myself company after my recent injury. It was hard for me to play with her as much as I had been and I really wanted to get her a playmate.

The day after Thanksgiving, we lost one of my childhood cats after several months trying to nurse her back from kidney failure. I was devastated! After a month or so I knew I was ready for another animal but I could not adopt another cat. In a way I felt like I would be replacing Boots.

One beautiful Saturday while my husband was at work, I took Katie to PetSmart for a new toy. They of course had a display of puppies to be adopted. She was a beautiful golden retriever/great Pyrenees mix with great big paw, a yellow strip down her back, and a white tip tail. I knew the moment I looked I got her home and sat down in the floor with that big mutt I would never let anyone else have her.

Emily has been one of the best therapies to help me recover from my injury. However, that was the last thing I was looking for at the time.

Emily especially loves car rides. She is

incredibly smart and learned to sit, shake, stand up, and lay down in only a week. I recommend to everyone I can to adopt their animals from Petsmart Charities Adoption Centers. This is the second animal we have adopted and I would not trade either of them for the world.

Thank you Petsmart and Upstate Animal Rescue.
