Adoption Program
PetSmart Charities®'s invites local animal-welfare organizations to become approved PetSmart Charities Adoption Partners.
Approved partners facilitate pet adoptions through PetSmart Charities® Adoption Centers and additional designated space located inside PetSmart® stores.
This lifesaving partnership finds homes for more than 7,000 pets per week. Through our In-store Adoption Program, in 2010 we hope to save more than 440,000 pets’ lives!

- Your adoptable pets will be seen by thousands of PetSmart® customers every week
- The pets can be showcased in our well-equipped PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers
- Cats can stay 24 hours a day, seven days a week to maximize their opportunity for adoption and open shelter space for even more homeless pets
- Adoption Partners receive Adoption Reward funding simply by saving the lives of homeless pets using the In-Store Adoption Program
Adoption Reward
PetSmart Charities supports our Adoption Partners with:
- Adoption Reward monies for each pet that they adopt out of the In-store Adoption Centers to offset their expenses for preparing pets for adoption
- Eligibility for further funding for broader event support, discounts and more through a separate, Banfield, The Pet Hospital®-funded program
- Adoption Center supplies, food and litter for adoptable cats housed in the store.
Adoption Events
Being an Adoption Partner means your organization may have the opportunity to participate in the following events we support:
Daily Adoption Events - All PetSmart® store locations provide space, food, litter, and maintenance supplies for our approved partners to facilitate adoptions for homeless pets. Plus, all stores may assist in cleaning, maintenance and even adoption facilitation to help you find homes for adoptable pets. No matter where you are in the U.S. or Canada, your local PetSmart store is providing a safe haven for pets and a vital opportunity for animal welfare organizations to find them homes
National Adoption Events - All PetSmart® store locations participate in these lifesaving events. National events occur four times per year, and while the events are advertised for Fridays through Sundays, our partners are encouraged and rewarded for participating during the week leading up to the event. Event awareness is increasing exponentially; during 2009 more than 18,000 pets’ lives were saved during a single event!
Community Adoption Events - These invitation only single-store or single-market events are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. PetSmart® store teams are encouraged to support their local Adoption Partners by hosting these localized efforts. These events are not as large as our national adoption events, but are equally as critical to our partners who rely on the unique venue a PetSmart store can provide.
