Lana
September 6, 2011
Lana was severely malnourished and weak when she arrived at Beauty's Haven Farm and Equine Rescue in Florida in July 2010. At her previous home, she and more than 30 other horses and ponies didn't have enough to eat and only had a slime-filled pond for water. Some had even lost their lives to alligator and panther attacks on the property.
At Beauty's Haven, it took four months to nurse Lana back to health. PetSmart Charities® provided a $5,250 emergency grant to help Lana and several other rescued horses.
In March 2011, Lana was adopted by Gina Gutierrez and her husband.
"The more I found out about the rescue, it touched my heart and I wanted to help them out, too – give a pony a second chance at life," Gina says.
