Scooter

April 26, 2011

My daughter-in-law first saw Scooter at the Friends For Animals Shelter and called me to go online to see her. I first saw her photo there. I called about her and was told she was at the PetSmart Charities® Adoption Center. When I first laid eyes on her, I was in love. I was also told she probably would not do well in a household with other animals, but by looking at her, I knew she needed a family to love her.

She came into a household with a Shar-Pei, a Manchester and a cat. Scooter now has a new Chi-Weenie sister (also a rescue puppy). Scooter's last family had to give her up because of divorce and she was a very sad little dog. She sat and watched the door just waiting for her family to return for her. It tore my heart out and I just knew she needed a very loving family. She has one now.

Scooter feels she is the designated lap sitter. I make a lap and she sits. She is very smart and has a giant personality. Scooter reminds me when it is time to eat by barking and running to her bowl, particularly in the evening. I always know when it is 5:00 o'clock (Scooter barks until fed). When it is bedtime, she goes into my bedroom. If I don't come right away, she comes to the door and stands waiting for me. If I don't respond, she barks and runs back into the bedroom and keeps coming back until I go to bed. When she is ready to go to sleep, she comes up to the top of the bed, paws the cover back and goes under and sleeps at the crook of my knees. Scooter is the extension of my heart and I am so happy she came to enrich my life. I have lost beloved pets in my life and others will never take their place, but Scooter sure came into my life and made her own place in my heart.
