The Rescue Waggin’ program transports dogs and puppies from areas of high pet overpopulation to shelters in areas where adoptable dogs are in demand. As of Oct. 31, 2009, more than 30,000 dogs and puppies have been transported by Rescue Waggin' vehicles. PetSmart Charities® is committed to reducing pet overpopulation and increasing local adoptions in source communities until transport is no longer needed.
- Program guidelines have been reviewed by veterinarians and national humane organizations and are considered the gold standard for pet transport.
- Drivers and transport coordinators trained in pet care and animal first aid are carefully selected to ensure the highest quality care.
- Closed-circuit video enables drivers to monitor dogs from the cab while on the road to ensure they're resting peacefully.
- Canine passengers relax in temperature-controlled comfort with plenty of water, toys and lullaby music to help reduce the stress of travel.
- All transported dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
- Dogs in the receiving shelters are not displaced to make room for transported dogs.
