“Dawn,” a Mature Golden Retriever, Walks Red Carpet at Humane Society of Boulder Valley

Becomes the 50,000th Dog Transported Aboard a PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin’® Vehicle

PHOENIX (October 4, 2011) —

Dawn becomes 50,000th dog transported
on PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin’®
vehicle. But every dog that boards this
life-saving transport is “1 of 50,000" dogs
who have gotten a second chance at a
new home.

Dawn, a beautiful, mature Golden Retriever, is the celebrated 50,000th dog transported aboard PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin’® vehicle today, making the journey from Sante Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society in Santa Fe, N.M., to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Boulder, Colo.

Walking the red carpet from the Rescue Waggin’ vehicle with 30 other dogs, Dawn represents the thousands of dogs and puppies that board one of the four Rescue Waggin’ vehicles across the country every month in search of new homes.

Launched in 2004, PetSmart Charities’ Rescue Waggin’ program, which networks more than 60 animal shelters across the country, moves adoptable dogs, like Dawn, from communities with high pet populations and not enough homes to animal shelters, like the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Boulder, Colo., where adoptable dogs are more in demand. The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is one of 21 destination shelters nationwide capable of accepting dogs and the only shelter in the Great Plains region of the U.S. that works with other shelters to save lives.

Dawn Walks Down Red CarpetGiven as a “gift,” Dawn was relinquished by her new family after only six months. The family said Dawn had been a faithful dog who loved playing with children, going on walks and enjoying family life. PetSmart Charities created the Rescue Waggin’ program to saves the lives of wonderful dogs, like Dawn, and help them find new homes, wherever those homes may be.

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is located at 2323 55th Street, Boulder, Colo.
