Jax and Jordan Are 499th and 500th Life Saved

Noah's Ark Animal Foundation transports 500 dogs so far on PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin'® Vehicle

FAIRFIELD (May 21, 2010) —

The Noah's Ark Animal Foundation in Fairfield, Iowa, recently celebrated a milestone – the transport of 500 dogs on PetSmart Charities’® Rescue Waggin’® vehicle. Jax (left), a nine-week-old Border Collie mix, and Jordan (right), a nine-week-old Shepherd mix, were the 499th and 500th dogs transported on the Rescue Waggin’ vehicle since Noah’s Ark joined the program in 2007.

As a partner in the Rescue Waggin’ program, Noah's Ark Animal Foundation sends some of its homeless shelter dogs and puppies on the Rescue Waggin’ vehicle every month to shelters further north where there is more adoption space and a guarantee of new homes for these pets. The Noah's Ark Animal Foundation is currently one of 55 shelter partners saving lives through PetSmart Charities’ Rescue Waggin’ program, which is proudly sponsored by PEDIGREE®.

“The Rescue Waggin’ program is incredibly meaningful and has definitely made an impact on the dog overpopulation problem in Fairfield and Southeast Iowa -- 500 is a huge number of lives to save,” says Laura Cohen, executive director of the Noah's Ark Animal Foundation. “It’s rewarding for our small community to have an alternative solution that saves so many lives.”

The Rescue Waggin’ vehicle, which arrives in Fairfield every month, provides dogs and puppies with an air-conditioned custom ride to their destination shelter, including piped-in lullabies. Arriving the very same day, the dogs get 12-24 hours of ‘down time’ before getting a medical check-up, their spay/neuter surgery, and placement on the adoption floor.

Since 2004, the Rescue Waggin’ program has saved the lives of more than 37,000 puppies and dogs. The Rescue Waggin’ Program operates in the East Coast, Midwest, Great Plains, and South Central states, providing animal shelters with a viable alternative to euthanasia.
