PetSmart Charities® Adoption Event at PetSmart® Headquarters Hopes to Find Homes for Hundreds of Pets
Take a stand as “united for adopted pets” at election-themed event
PHOENIX (October 1, 2012) —As we’re heading to the polls this election season, we want to know: are you one to lean towards dogs or cats? In an effort to unite true bipartisanship among all pet lovers, PetSmart Charities will host a community adoption event with the goal of adopting 400 pets in Phoenix, Ariz. on Saturday, Oct. 13 (10 am – 5 pm) and Sunday, Oct. 14 (10 am – 4 pm).
The Phoenix community adoption event will be held at the PetSmart® Corporate Headquarters (19601 N. 27th Avenue) in partnership with HALO Animal Rescue and the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA (AAWL). During a season of heated debate, PetSmart Charities hopes to bring adopters together to support a cause we can all stand behind: saving homeless pets.
In addition to adoptions, pet parents can take advantage of the event’s vaccination clinic and free mobile spay and neuter clinic, beginning at 7 am each day. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control will provide the mobile spay and neuter clinic, which will perform surgeries free of cost for Maricopa County residents. For more information about the specific vaccinations, spay and neuter clinic requirements and fees, visit www.petsmartcharities.org.
“We’re thrilled to partner with PetSmart Charities and be able to showcase so many wonderful pets that need homes,” said Heather Allen, president and CEO, HALO Animal Rescue. “During past adoption events, we’ve been able to adopt hundreds of pets, and we look forward to helping match adopters with lifelong companions.”
An estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year, and approximately 4 million – approximately 11,000 each day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities strives to bring attention to the availability of pets at shelters and rescue groups and to the benefits of pet adoption.
“Community adoption events such as this one provide great opportunities for the pets in our care to find their lifelong loving homes,” said Judith Gardner, president and CEO of AAWL. “We hope for a great turnout this weekend and the adoption of hundreds of homeless pets.”
Proudly sponsored by Purina® Pro Plan® and MAXX Scoop®, the Phoenix community adoption event will raise awareness for pets available to adopt in the local community and provide HALO Animal Rescue and AAWL with a venue to help them find homes. As an added benefit, the participating groups will receive increased adoption rewards from PetSmart Charities for every pet adopted during the event.
“Every homeless pet deserves the opportunity to find a forever, loving home,” said Kevin Hill, shopper marketing manager, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company. “Our goal in supporting the PetSmart Charities’ community adoption events is to help improve the lives of homeless pets by providing them with super premium nutrition as well as other important pet care supplies. We hope by providing these essentials, these pets and new pet owners can now focus on other important matters like growing a bond for life.”
