Grant Supports the Accreditation of Equine Rescue Organizations
July 1, 2010
This year, a grant from PetSmart Charities® will help the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) assist even more equine organizations seeking accreditation by funding Accreditation Compliance Grants.
Funders, donors and adopters can have the utmost confidence that a GRAS-accredited organization adheres to the highest standards of animal care, nonprofit governance and fiscal soundness, which has been demonstrated through a rigorous application process and through site inspections. The Accreditation Compliance Grants, administered by GFAS, are intended to provide the financial support for the last hurdle that an organization needs to overcome before it reaches the accreditation finish line.
Examples of Accreditation Compliance Grants might include funding to obtain legal advice in structuring a succession plan in the event of the death of a founder, rewiring a barn to eliminate a fire hazard or the purchase of a dump trailer to haul manure.
GFAS, which began accrediting equine organizations in 2009, expects to accredit at least 10 equine organizations with the grant funding we have provided this year.
“PetSmart Charities is providing groundbreaking funding for a program that is professionalizing the equine field and giving outstanding organizations the assistance and recognition they deserve,” said Adam Roberts, GFAS board president.
