Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League Receives $100,000 Grant from PetSmart Charities® to Spay and Neuter More than 2,000 Cats

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League recently received a $100,000 grant from PetSmart Charities® to significantly increase the number of spay and neuter surgeries for Lake Worth cats over the next two years. The organization’s veterinary clinic at the Grace Pavilion successfully performed more than 7,600 surgeries in 2011 and will continue to advance its program to proactively fight the homeless pet-overpopulation issue in Palm Beach County.
While Peggy Adams’ low-cost veterinary services are open to all pets year-round, this new program under PetSmart Charities’ grant funding offers special discounted spay and neuter services for Lake Worth’s pet and free-roaming cat population. For only a $10 co-pay, surgeries can be scheduled at hspb.org. Feral cats brought to the shelter in traps are accepted on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday.
“More than 10,000 cats were brought to Peggy Adams and Animal Care and Control last year, with nearly 1,300 of them specifically from Lake Worth,” said Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League Executive Director Rich Anderson. “Combating over-population is a big goal to work towards, but thanks to PetSmart Charities, we hope to significantly reduce the problem of homeless and neglected cats not only in Lake Worth, but in our County as a whole.”
The rescue league provides services to more than 15,000 cats and dogs each year and this effort enforces the organization’s mission to create a community where 100 percent of adoptable animals have a chance for a lifelong, loving home.
