Sauk County Humane Society Receives $98,600 Grant from PetSmart Charities® to Sterilize 1,150 Pets
November 1, 2011
Recently the Sauk County Humane Society received a $98,600 grant from PetSmart Charities® to provide low cost spay/neuter surgeries. The SPOT (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today) program offers spay/neuter services to all residents in the zip code areas of 53913 and 53959. The cost to the pet owner will be $10 per cat and $15 per dog. The goal of the Sauk County Humane Society is to reduce homeless-pet overpopulation in the Reedsburg/Baraboo area. If you live in the 53913 or 53959 zip codes and are interested in having your pet spay/neutered, please call the Sauk County Humane Society at (608) 356-2520.
“Every year the Sauk County Humane Society has had to euthanize many animals due to the overpopulation problem,” states Dianne Horlamus, Executive Director. “There just aren’t enough homes for all of them. With this grant, we will be able to alter the animals, thereby reducing the rising amount of animals coming into the shelter each year.”
The Sauk County Humane Society also realizes that there are many responsible pet owners out there who wish to have their animals spayed or neutered, but with the downturn in the economy they just aren’t able to. Therefore, with the funds from this grant, we are hoping to be able to help these people out.
The Sauk County Humane Society is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization serving the Sauk County area. Each year we provide services to between 1500 and 1800 homeless animals. Established in 1981, it has been our mission to encourage responsible treatment of animals through: Preventing cruelty to animals; finding homes for animals; promoting spay-neutering efforts, and extending humane education and outreach.
