Help With Application Logistics
Navigating PetSmart Charities' New Online Grant Application provides access to webinars for both new and returning users. We strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to view the one appropriate to your situation, whether you are already registered as a CyberGrants user or not. Each of these webinars has been updated to respond to the typical questions and issues applicants have previously experienced.
Saving Your Work
You should save your work very frequently while you work on the CyberGrants application. IMPORTANT: If you move to a different tab or use the “back” arrow to the previous page, you will lose your work if you haven’t clicked “Save All”. You can also save your work on an application and come back later to complete it.
Notifications
When you have completed the application and checked all of your work, click “submit”. You will immediately receive an e-mail acknowledgment confirming that your completed application has been received. You may receive additional e-mails as we process and review your application, i.e. if something is missing or needs clarification. We will use the e-mail address you provide when you start your application, so be sure that your information is correct.
If you have further questions about Canadian grant applications or the grant process, please e-mail canadiangrants@petsmartcharities.org, or call 1 (800) 738-1385, ext. 2837.

Q1. |
What types of programs does PetSmart Charities® of Canada fund? |
|
|
A. |
All of our Canadian grants are for spay/neuter programs, with applications for the following categories:
Although we strongly encourage all adoption agencies to ensure that their adopted pets are spayed or neutered before they go home, we do not currently have funding available for that purpose. |
|
|
What do you mean by “public”? |
|
|
| A. |
Owned cats and dogs, as compared with free-roaming cats or pets in the care of an animal shelter or other pet adoption organisation. |
|
|
What would qualify as a “targeted” spay/neuter program? What do you mean by that term? |
|
|
| A. |
We have recorded a very valuable webinar with the answers to that question for Canadian and US agencies (PetSmart Charities’ High Impact Spay/Neuter Grants: What Are We Looking For?). We are looking for targeted, “high impact” projects, and the webinar gives examples of how to target – and measure – your program for the best results (and to increase your chance of grant approval). If you still have questions about this important point after viewing the webinar, contact us at canadiangrants@petsmartcharities.org. |

| What do you mean by “equipment grants," and how are they different from the other grants? | ||
| A. |
Actually, the process is quite different from the other grant types. Here are a few important points about Canadian equipment grants:
|
|
| When are grant applications accepted? | ||
| A. |
Canadian grant applications for targeted high-impact, and free-roaming cat spay/neuter programs are currently available. Please apply online. This grant application period closes on Tuesday, March 26 at noon Mountain Time. Additional Canadian grant applications for targeted high-impact, and free-roaming cat spay/neuter programs will be available during the remaining 2013 application period from July 15 through September 3 at noon Mountain Time. |
|
| What kinds of organisations may apply? | ||
| A. |
Canadian Registered Charities may apply, as can municipal animal agencies (i.e., a city or county animal control agency,) or tribal authorities. |
|
| How many applications may we submit? | ||
| A. |
Your organisation may submit one grant application each year. |
|
| How many grants will be approved this year? | ||
| A. |
That depends on the grant applications we receive. We will fund what we can, but there is limited funding available for each province each year; the competition is high. Therefore, grants are not guaranteed. |
|
| Q9. | When will we find out if our grant application has been approved? | |
| A. | Evaluation of grant applications will begin in April, immediately after the submission period closes on April 15th. The process usually takes 1-3 months as we review applications, determining the best use of our grant funds for the greatest impact for the homeless pets of Canada. | |
| Q10. | Where does the funding come from for Canadian grants? | |
| A. | PetSmart Charities of Canada is a Canadian Registered Charity, and our funding is made possible by donations from individual Canadians who have contributed to help homeless pets. Grant checks are cut in Canadian dollars on a Canadian bank; no translation from US dollars is necessary. | |
| Q11. | How does the online application system work? | |
| A. | During the grant application submission period, March 15-April 15, 2012, a link to the Cybergrants application system will appear at the top of this web page. The online system provides many benefits to applicants, including
