What are PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages?

PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages allow you to create your own Web page and raise funds to help support PetSmart Charities’ programs and initiatives to save the lives of homeless pets. Use your page to share stories and photos of your favorite pet, to honor loved ones or to mark special occasions. Connect with other PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages members who are passionate about saving the lives of homeless pets.

What do I need to create my PetSmart Charities Tribute Page?

  1. A valid e-mail address to register
  2. The content that you wish to include on the page
  3. Any photos you would like to include

What should I put on my PetSmart Charities Tribute Page?

PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages was designed to give you a place to express your passion for saving the lives of homeless pets and the tools to make a difference by raising funds to support the work of PetSmart Charities. Your page features a text section, profile photo, photo album, guest book, donation box and links section. There is a maximum limit of 5000 characters per text section.

Here are some suggestions for “themes” for the text section:

  • Highlight your favorite pet and explain why he is important to you
  • Mark a special event--like a birthday, wedding, graduation, holiday or anniversary--and explain why your friends should make gifts to PetSmart Charities via your page
  • Dedicate your page fund to a loved one and share why they are special
  • Keep alive the memory of someone dear to you because of the impact they’ve had on your life

Some style hints:

  • Do NOT type your story in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS; this makes the page difficult to read and is the web equivalent of SHOUTING
  • Make sure to spell check your page before publishing
  • Start a new paragraph after every 4 or 5 sentences; your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page will be much easier to read

How do I add photos to my page?

First, make sure your photos are in .gif, .jpg, or .png format. Crop or resize your image to 225 pixels by 300 pixels. Photos must be no larger than 1.5MB.

If you choose to create a photo album, you may include up to 10 photos there, in addition to the one on the main page.

How do I begin building my PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages?

Go to the “Tribute Pages” section of the site and click on “Create a Tribute Page”. Follow the easy, step-by-step process to create your page, along with your very own personalized url link directly to the page.

I just created my page and it asked for only one section of content. How do I add more?

During the creation process you will only be able to include content of the one section and one picture for the main page. Once you create your page, go to the Champion Center and follow the steps to add additional content and pictures.

Why doesn't my page show up when I click on "Show all Pages"?

If you checked the box next to “Private Fund” in the process of setting up your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, your page will not show up in the Search or be viewable to the general public. If you wish to make your page viewable via the Search feature, go to the Champion Center, select “Edit Page Settings” on the right, and uncheck the “Private Fund” box.

I just finished my page. Now what do I do?

After you finish creating your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, it’s time to share it! Go to the Champion Center and send a message to your family and friends inviting them to visit your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page so they may leave comments in your Guestbook, and make donations to PetSmart Charities.

Where does the money I raise through my PetSmart Charities Tribute Page go?

The funds you raise through your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page go toward supporting PetSmart Charities’ efforts to save the lives of homeless pets, including our adoption program, spay/neuter initiatives, emergency relief funding and support and grants and educational programming for animal welfare organizations. Thanks to the donations made through your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, PetSmart Charities is able to further develop and continue offering lifesaving programs and funding that helps save the lives of homeless pets.

How do I inactivate my PetSmart Charities Tribute Page?

If you wish to inactivate your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, you must e-mail PetSmart Charities at gifts@petsmartcharities.org. Be sure to include the name of your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, the Champion's name and e-mail address, and state that you want your page to be inactivated.

How do I make my PetSmart Charities Tribute Page private?

Go to your Champion Center. In the Page Information box on the left side of the screen click on the Edit Page Settings link. To make your page private, check the Private Fund box and save.

How do I edit my page?

Go to your Champion Center to access tools to change/edit your page. Click on the Web Page icon at the top of the page. It will take you to your Web Page Edit page to where you can make edits, upload photos, create photo albums and change your layout. Be sure to save any changes before moving on.

How do I invite friends to join?

Go to your Champion Center. Click on the Email icon at the top of the page. You will be taken to the suggested messages page, where you can choose a standard form message to send or create your own message. Click on Invitation.

How do I invite friends to donate money?

Go to your Champion Center. Click on the Email icon at the top of the page. You will be taken to the suggested messages page, where you can click on Sample Appeal for a standard form message. You may want to personalize your message and tell your friends more about your page. To create your own message click on Blank Message or simply click on Sample Appeal and type in the text box.

How do I find out how many people have donated to my page?

Go to your Champion Center. Click on the Fund Summary icon at the top of the page. You will be taken to the Fund Summary page, where you can see the number of gifts you received, the amount of each gift, and a list of the names of people who have made donations.

How do I add/save e-mail addresses?

Go to your Champion Center. Click on the Address Book icon at the top of the page. You will be taken to the Address Book page, where you can view, manage and upload friends e-mail addresses. Click on the Import Contacts button to import contacts from address books saved on your hard drive. Select the e-mail provider from the drop down menu on the right and upload your .csv file to add contacts. Click Online Import to directly access your address book of your e-mail service provide. Click on the Add Contacts button to manually add e-mail addresses. Don’t forget to click the save button before leaving the page.

How do I personalize my Web address URL?

Go to your Champion Center. In the Page Information box on the left side of the screen click on the Edit Page Settings link. Click on the URL box on the bottom of the page to update your url. Your Web address can only contain letters, numbers, periods, dashes, and underscore symbols.

I’ve forgotten my User Name and Password. What do I do?

No worries! All you need is the e-mail address that you used to register. Go to the login page and scroll down to the Email Me My User Name and Password box. Enter your e-mail address and we will e-mail your account login information to that address.

How do I make a gift/donation to a PetSmart Charities Tribute Page?

Anyone can make a donation via PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages to support PetSmart Charities’ efforts to save the lives of homeless pets. Once you find a PetSmart Charities Tribute Page member whose page you would like to make a gift to, click on the Make a Donation button to make a gift of any amount through a secure form. Once your donation is complete, it is counted toward that champion’s Fundraising Goal!

How do I make an anonymous gift/donation on someone’s PetSmart Charities Tribute Page?

Once you find a PetSmart Charities Tribute Page member whose page you would like to make a gift to, click on the Make a Donation button, which takes you to a secure form. In the Gift Information section, check the box that reads, “Do not show my name on the PetSmart Charities Tribute Page.” If you would like for a different name to show up when you make a donation, simply enter it into the field that reads, “Show my name on the PetSmart Charities Tribute Page.” Once your donation is complete, it is counted toward that champion’s Fundraising Goal!

How do I find out who donated to my page?

Go to your Champion Center. Click on the Follow Up icon on the toolbar at the top of the page. It will take you to your Contacts List page. Click on the scroll down menu to filter by donor status. Select the line that shows donors who have have donated on your behalf for this event and press go.

What are some suggestions as to how I can raise more funds using my page?

  • Once you’ve registered and set up your page, send a welcome message to all your friends and family telling them about it.
  • Personalize your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page URL and include a link to it on all your other social networking pages and profiles.
  • Include a link to your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page in the signature line or bottom of all your e-mails.
  • Start a challenge among your friends for who can raise the most funds—make things fun by awarding a prize to the winner!
  • Update your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page regularly and maintain a clean, interesting page.
  • Visit other PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages and connect with others.
  • Talk. Tell people about the work you are doing on behalf of PetSmart Charities and homeless pets!
  • In lieu of birthday, wedding, graduation or holiday gifts, tell your friends and loved ones to make a meaningful gift through your page.
  • Set a realistic fundraising goal and keep yourself in check by visiting your page weekly.
  • Set aside a small portion of your paycheck to contribute to your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page.
  • Thank everyone who has made gifts to your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page using the message feature.
  • Include cool, compelling photos on your page.

How do I raise funds for PetSmart Charities using my page?

Your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page features a standard donation tool which enables you to raise funds to support PetSmart Charities’ efforts to save the lives of homeless pets. Making a gift—and a difference—is as easy as clicking a button.

  • Once you’ve registered and set up your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, set an amount that you’d like as your Fundraising Goal. Make sure it’s a realistic one.
  • Next, click on the Messages icon to send a welcome message to all your friends and family telling them about your PetSmart Charities Tribute Page and encouraging them to make gifts.
  • When people visit your page, they will be able to click on the Make a Donation button to make a gift of any amount through a secure form.
  • Once their donation is complete, it is counted toward your Fundraising Goal!

How do I update my fundraising goal?

Go to your Champion Center home page. Click in the New Goal field in the Page Information box to the right. Type in the monetary amount that you aim to raise through this fund. Make sure to click the Update Goal button before exiting the page.

How do I edit my fund name and/or description?

Go to your Champion Center homepage and click on the Edit Page Settings link located in the Page Information box. The Update the Fund page opens. [Note: If you are not in the Champion Center, log onto the site, click the link that displays the Tribute Campaign Funds, and then click the Champion Center link.]

Click into the Fund Name field and make your changes. This is the name that will appear in Tribute Page searches. Click in the Fund Description field and make your changes. Make sure to click the Save button to save your changes before exiting the page.

When you set up a PetSmart Charities Tribute Page, you must agree to the following waiver:

I certify that I have the right to distribute the content including text and photos that I have uploaded into Tribute Pages and that this content does not violate the Terms of Use or the rights of third parties. I grant PetSmart Charities and the PetSmart Charities network a nonexclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty free license to use, modify, and sublicense this content for any purpose. I will not use PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages or its e-mail tools made available to me in any illegal, untruthful, or objectionable manner, or for any commercial purpose or for compensation. If I am using PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages to honor another person, I represent that I have obtained the legal permission to do so. PetSmart Charities is not obligated to use my content, and may remove or discontinue PetSmart Charities Tribute Pages, or individual pages of it, at its discretion.
