WHAT: PetSmart Charities is holding its Spring Just a Buck, Change Their Luck™ fundraising campaign Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 in all U.S. and Canadian PetSmart stores. The fall 2007 campaign offers items featuring collectible artwork entitled “Man’s Best Friends” by artist Georg Williams. Donors who contribute $5 will receive a mouse pad or pack of note cards, and $10 donors will receive a T-shirt.
WHY: PetSmart Charities raises funds to support animal welfare agencies that help save the lives of homeless pets. Last year, the Just a Buck, Change Their Luck fall campaign raised $2.4 million. All funds raised within a state or province are granted to animal welfare agencies within that state or province. Through its adoption centers inside every PetSmart store, PetSmart Charities helps save the life of a homeless pet every two minutes. WHEN : Sat., Aug. 18 – Sun., Sept. 2 WHERE: All U.S. and Canadian PetSmart stores WHO: Artist Georg Williams began painting at a young age and selling his portraits at the age of 15. Following a tour in the army, Williams studied art at Nicholls State University and later opened galleries in Houma and New Orleans and taught art classes. As an instructor, he stressed that “art cannot be handed over by teachers but must be found by the students themselves.” After years of commissioned photo realism portraits, Williams has returned to the simpler, and more animated caricatured style of his youth. With great success, he has been able to pursue his passion full time and enjoys the delight his clients get from his work.
PetSmart Charities (www.petsmartcharities.org) creates and supports programs that save the lives of homeless pets, raises awareness of companion animal welfare issues, and promotes healthy relationships between people and pets. Since 1994, PetSmart Charities, an independent 501(c)3 organization, has donated more than $52 million to animal welfare programs and, through its in-store adoption programs, has saved the lives of more than 3 million pets.
