PetSmart Charities Presents the 2006 Bart Schillaci Award to Marshall Meyers
Winner Champions the Interests of All Segments of the Pet Industry
PetSmart Charities is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2006 Bart Schillaci Award, Marshall Meyers. Meyers is executive vice president and general counsel for the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC), the world’s largest pet trade association. He received the honor at the PetSmart Charities Fourth Annual Golf Classic & Desert Adventure on Apr. 19, 2007.
The award is presented annually to a company or individual that is well known and respected in the pet industry, has contributed positively to the growth of the industry, and has actively participated in improving the lives of pets and their people.
Meyers has served ardently for more than three decades on behalf of the pet industry. He is credited as the being the driving force behind PIJAC, whose mission is to ensure the availability of companion animals which sustain the entire pet industry. PIJAC focuses on education, information and governmental issues involving pet stores and issues related to companion animal supply and restrictions or obstacles to pet ownership.
“Marshall is an extremely generous person who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of pets and their parents,” said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities. “He is a good mentor and a respected leader who has contributed greatly to the growth of the pet industry.”
The Bart Schillaci Award was created to honor the life and work of former PetSmart Charities’ board member, Bart Schillaci. Schillaci was well-known and respected in the pet industry having served as President and CEO of The Bramton Company for 21 years and President of the American Pet Product Manufacturers Association (APPMA). His many contributions helped further the pet industry and animal welfare field.
