We rely on partners to help us save lives through our PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin'® program. We follow a set of guidelines that assures the most humane treatment, best medical care and best outcomes for the homeless dogs and puppies we transfer in our Rescue Waggin’ vehicles.
Destination Shelters
Destination (Receiving) Shelter Requirements
- Must have a community demand for adopting puppies/dogs
- Must be able to accept dogs and puppies without displacing other adoptable animals in your shelter (or partner with another area shelter to reach this goal)
- Must have a strong infrastructure of employees/volunteers/facility to handle the additional adoptions
- Must be willing to work within the Rescue Waggin’ program animal transport guidelines
Destination Shelter Benefits
When you participate in the Rescue Waggin’ program, you will save the lives of homeless dogs and puppies. Your shelter will receive behaviorally and medically sound dogs and puppies at no cost to you.
Source Shelters
Source (Shipping) Shelter Requirements
- Must have a high population of homeless pets and high euthanasia rates in your community
- Must have a desire to help save adoptable dogs and puppies by relocating them to a community where they have a better chance of being adopted
- Must be willing to work within the Rescue Waggin’ program animal transport guidelines
Source Shelter Benefits
When you participate in the Rescue Waggin’ program, you save the lives of homeless dogs and puppies and increase community awareness and outreach opportunities. Your shelter will receive a full-time shelter mentor to improve shelter operations and problem solving. Your shelter may receive grants for shelter improvements and will receive medical reimbursement for dogs transported as part of the Rescue Waggin' program. You will have access to Rescue Waggin' program training and invited to summits.
