Mutual Rescue: Kylie & Liza

In her final days, a courageous, free-spirited girl named Kylie is comforted by her rescue kitten Liza

When Kylie Myers was diagnosed with metastatic bone cancer, she tackled the situation like she’s been known to handle most things in her young life — with a smile on her face and a hopeful attitude. After several months of treatment, doctors found the cancer had spread throughout her body. Despite the devastating news the bright-eyed 12-year-old still managed to see the silver lining. “Can I have a kitty now?” Kylie asked her parents, not long after her request, Liza met Kylie. The family intended to foster the rescue kitty during Kylie’s last days. What they didn’t realize is Liza would become the families saving grace.

“I’ve heard people describe animals like angels. I never really understood what that meant until Liza met Kylie.”

— Robin Myers, Kylie's mom

At PetSmart Charities, we believe in the healing power of the human-animal bond. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) in support of their national animal-human welfare movement called Mutual Rescue aimed at challenging the world to re-imagine how our lives can be transformed when we adopt a homeless pet.

What a beautiful story about a courageous young lady with such a lovely spirit and her faithful cat companion. I hope that Liza is still bringing warmth and cat love to Kylie's family. Liza is an unusual cat and she and Kylie's family can bring love and good memories to each other. Bless her and your whole family.

Cats are the perfect companion for everyone.
Lonely people, depressed, sick and for just cats lovers.

So sorry for your loss of your beautiful daughter, Kylie.. This video is such a wonderful tribute to Kylie and a great testimony of how angels do not always have wings. Sometimes God sends them with whiskers, a soothing purr, and are named Liza.

OH the tears fall I want to let kylie's parents know how very sorry I am for their great loss. Thank you for sharing your story of your beautiful daughter who was that way on the inside as well as the out side. Thank you also for adopting a baby kitten who needed you all as much as you needed her. I know that Kylie will always be in your minds and deep in your hearts .

Give Liza a big kiss and hug for me cause she is a real keeper.

What a beautiful story. Animals really do sense our feelings. I'm sure this was s hard video for the family to create but it will no doubt help inspire so many others. Thank you for sharing!
