In 2011, Bonnie Lukas at Second Chance Animal Rescue was heading down the mountain to pick up supplies for the shelter, when she saw a smaller cream colored lab mix running down the mountain road. Unfortunately he disappeared & she was forced to continue down the road. Later she came upon the same little lab mix on the mountain road, but by this time he had been hit by a vehicle and left for dead. His front right limb was crushed and his hip was broken, leaving them no choice but to amputate the front limb. Thus left him with 3 legs (really 2 that mostly work). He was named Buddy & he lived at the SCAR sanctuary until we met him on our volunteer trip. We have been supporting Second Chance Animal Rescue for 10 years now & are heartbroken at the devastation they are experiencing from Hurricane Maria. SCAR has no power, water or communication towers. The category 4 Hurricane brought destroying winds, rain & damage to the shelter fencing & structures. They are such a deserving animal rescue charity that is in such need.
