Tipper and her new mom were meant to be together

I had just lost my 9-year-old beagle, Mode't, to cancer. She had been with our family since she was 6 weeks old. I was grieving deeply for her. She was my youngest "child".

After just 3 weeks, I knew I still had a lot of love to give. I needed a dog in my life. I searched online and found Houston Beagle & Hound Rescue. Scrolling through their list of adoptable dogs, I came across one that said, "Tipper—Survivor".

Made for each other

I read her story and knew she was for me. I had a broken heart and she had sustained some lasting injuries and abuse.

When a vet evaluated Tipper after her rescue, they discovered she had a broken leg that had never been set. She also had an eye injury that left her blind in her left eye. I knew right away that we could heal each other. We adopted her on October 10, 2010, or 10/10/10.

Getting comfortable in her new home

Every time I look at Tipper, my heart swells with love and pride. She has come so far since she came home with us. She was sad for the first few weeks, but once she grew comfortable with having a family who loves her, Tipper’s real personality began to show.

She was not much of a kisser at first, but does give more of her sweet kisses now. When I have a bad day or I am sad, all I have to do is look into Tipper’s beautiful eyes and all of that disappears. She makes me so happy!

Tipper’s own happy habits

Tipper has her own way of wagging her tail. It doesn't wag up and down or side to side like most dogs. Nope. Her tail wags in a circle! She has a little limp because of her prior broken leg. But it doesn’t slow her down and her limp is actually quite cute.

Tipper also has a great body clock. No matter what, she knows when it's time to eat and when it's time to go for her daily walks. She never lets me forget! She loves her walks and all of the friends she meets in the neighborhood. She even has a kitty friend who walks the block with us daily.

One of Tipper’s favorite places to lounge is in the clothes basket! She is a much happier little dog now. We have both healed from our wounds.
