PetSmart Charities®, Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia Team Up to Save Hundreds of Pets in Philadelphia Area

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

(Philadelphia) – Homeless pets in the Philadelphia metro area will have a better chance finding a loving home thanks to a partnership between PetSmart Charities® and the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly). With support from PetSmart, the two organizations have teamed up to open a pet adoption center in the PetSmart store at 2100 Chemical Rd, Plymouth Meeting, Pa.

Luna’s Story

Harley, now named Luna Sarro, was the first lucky pet to be adopted from the new facility.  On Monday, September 22, 2014, Patrick Sarro was shopping for his cat when he saw the Everyday Adoption Center.  Recovering from recent back surgery, Pat had been considering adopting a dog to keep him company during the day while he regained his strength.

“I went back to the kennels, just to look. But when I saw Luna, she looked at me with her head tilted and her ears perked up, I knew she was the one,” said Pat.  He sent a photo to his wife, and the rest is history.  Luna has been a marvelous addition to the family, and according to Pat, even the cat is warming up.  We hope that Luna’s is the first of many, many happy adoption stories created at the Everyday Adoption Center.

“Our partnership with the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia allows us to promote pet adoptions and reduce pet homelessness in the local community,” said Jan Wilkins, executive director, PetSmart Charities. “We are thrilled to bring this Everyday Adoption Center model to Philadelphia; each of these adoption centers allows us to save, on average, more than 1,000 pets every year.”

“Everyone at ACCT Philly is so excited about the new Everyday Adoption Center and finding more homes for the pets in our care,” said Susan Cosby, executive director of ACCT Philly. “We are very grateful to PetSmart Charities for this amazing opportunity to save lives.”
