PetSmart Charities® Celebrates America’s Top 10 “Furriendliest” Cities Following National Adoption Weekend

PHOENIX – Nearly 15,000 deserving pets found their forever homes over the weekend at PetSmart Charities® May National Adoption Weekend. The three-day event, in collaboration with more than 3,000 local adoption groups, was held at all 1,400 PetSmart® stores across the U.S.

Columbia, Md. proved to be the “furriendliest” city of the bunch – adoption partners helped find homes for 222 cats and dogs during National Adoption Weekend. A total of 1,584 pets were adopted across the top 10 cities.

Based on PetSmart Charities May National Adoption Weekend data, the top 10 cities with the most pet adoptions were:

1.    Columbia, Md. (222 adoptions)

2.    Albuquerque, NM (194 adoptions)

3.    Fort Worth, Texas (184 adoptions)

4.    Des Moines, Iowa (174 adoptions)

5.    Houston, Texas (165 adoptions)

6.    Evansville, Ind. (142 adoptions)

7.    Knoxville, Tenn. (134 adoptions)       

8.    San Antonio, Texas (131 adoptions)

9.    Huntsville, Ala. (124 adoptions)

10.  Alexandria, La. (114 adoptions)
