Support for Clinics Prevents Unplanned Litters

More equipment and education help clinics expand services

Man signs cat up for free spay/neuter surgery in Philadelphia. The number of homeless dogs and cats is difficult to estimate because the problem is so big. We do know a large percentage of these pets are euthanized because there simply aren’t enough loving homes or shelters to care for them.

Spaying or neutering is the most effective way to reduce unplanned litters.

PetSmart Charities® works closely with nonprofit clinics to provide the equipment, tools and resources clinics need to boost the number of pets they can spay or neuter each year.

Funds for new and improved clinics

The high cost of surgical equipment makes it difficult for new clinics to open and for existing practices to expand. PetSmart Charities grants help clinics to increase the number of surgeries they are able to perform.

We help existing successful clinics increase surgical capacity by opening second locations or growing current operations. Each new clinic aims to perform 6,000 surgeries a year.

The long-term result of more spay/neuter clinics is the prevention of millions of unplanned births.

PetSmart Charities helps clinics reduce pet overpopulation with a variety of grants:

  • Spay/neuter clinic equipment grants
  • Free-roaming cat spay/neuter program grants
  • Targeted spay/neuter program grants.

More than 120,000 surgeries at new clinics are possible every year because of PetSmart Charities equipment grants.

Clinics that participate in PetSmart Charities programs can also take advantage of additional resources, including toolkits and training.

Funds and so much more

Clinics are more likely to succeed with access to ongoing support. PetSmart Charities program managers are mentors, offering guidance to clinics to increase their spay/neuter surgeries. Program managers also help clinics solve challenges such as staff recruitment and offer advice on how to access training services from groups like the Humane Alliance or the ASPCA.
