Educating Pet Care Professionals to Keep Them Up-to-Date on Best Practices

PetSmart Charities champions professional development

Veterinarian prepares dog for spay/neuter surgery.Pet care is an exciting, ever-developing field. New technology and research changes the way we treat and promote the wellness of pets.

Caregivers must stay up-to-date on advancements in spay/neuter services. It’s a critical part of the overall effort to reduce the number of unwanted pets.

That’s why PetSmart Charities® sponsors a variety of educational opportunities for animal welfare professionals.

Partnering with experts

PetSmart Charities partners with the organizations to offer hands-on spay/neuter training programs.

  • Veterinarians/Clinics. Funding is available for training programs as part of our focus on opening and expanding spay/neuter clinics. PetSmart Charities matches clinic veterinarians and support staff with appropriate training opportunities.
  • Veterinary students. Training for professionals just entering the field is available at the PetSmart Charities Humane Alliance Spay Neuter Training Center and at universities with veterinary programs. Students learn the latest in high-quality, high-volume and early-age spay/neuter techniques.

Reducing pet overpopulation with education

Adoptions are a key part of dealing with the homeless pet population. But, there simply aren’t enough homes or shelters to handle all the pets in need. Preventing unplanned litters addresses the problem at its root.

More trained professionals mean more pets that are spayed or neutered … and fewer unplanned litters.

Continuing education equals better-informed pet care professionals.
